Does this count as homophobia?

On the radio this morning, a newscaster was talking about how one of Elton John's houses is going to be featured in Architectural Digest. She went on to say, "Elton John and his husband own a lot of houses! I wonder, who wears the French maid outfit when they clean?"

Now, that just rubbed me wrong. What does everyone else think?

Clearly, it's mean-spirited homophobia wrapped in what is meant to be clever humor which appeals to its own kind. It's sick ...and it's disgusting.

It could've been harmlessly intended-- And even if it wasn't, in my opinion it's an example of things we queers should take more lightly. Elton IS a funny guy with funny habits, and he mocks himself pretty well, as far as I know. If he's personally offended, then perhaps yes I would be too. But as it stands? Nah. Taking it badly just makes everything more dramatic, and in a movement that at this point is arguably trying to attain normalcy, we need to head away from drama.

Now I'm just wondering what it'd take to get my girlfriend into a french maid outfit... ;)

Since when do you have a girlfriend?! Your LJ leaves important things out...
