Ancient wisdom

While doing research for a sermon I came across this quote, attributed to Simeon b. Gamaliel II in Tractate Shabbat 10b (for perspective, this was redacted in 425 CE):

"If you wish to give a child food, first tell his mother."

Just when I think I don't like Talmud, it goes and does something cool like that!

ALWAYS wise advice!

Redacted in 425 CE. Wonder why in the world WHY! The "Talmud in my mind" demands an explanation! Was it never reinstated?

By "redacted" I meant "officially compiled" - 425 is the end date usually given for when it was finished editing, and became the text we know today.

Oops! Sorry! I thought "redacted" meant it was taken out in 425. Thanks for setting me right. That really is neat advice to find in the Talmud...wonder what other little nuggets are nestled there...
