Morning amusement

My children's full names are Alexander (Xander) and Aryeh (Ari).  Both start with the letter "A."

My oldest has no concept of this.  Whenever we do our alphabet puzzle, no matter what I say, "A" is for Apple only.

His name starts with "X," for Xander.  And his brother's name obviously starts with "R," for R-ee.

It does make sense, I have to admit!

In fact, it does much more than make sense. Xander's preparing himself for reading -- both by SIGHT and PHONETICALLY.

He knows his name starts with X because he signs all his papers with an "X for Xander" and connects the SIGHT of any X with the SOUND of his name. He won't have any trouble reading "xylophone" or "xenophobia." And his phonetic aptitude is sharp when he says ARI starts with an R. Listen to it:
phonetically he is 100% correct.

The pitfalls he'll encounter along the way are the fault of the English language, which has more
exceptions than rules!! The toughest lesson he'll have to learn is to be mentally and intellectually FLEXIBLE.

It's so exciting watching these kids grow as they develop new skills every day.
